BLVD Vol.9 Out Now
Welcome to Volume 9 of BLVD.
This month, it was all about the tools. We spent nearly the entire time with the Ricoh GR IV Monochrome, a small camera with a remarkably big personality. At first, its abundance of settings and presets felt like a world of possibilities—and a bit of a puzzle. It took us a while to find our footing, to tune the camera to the way we see, and to make its many choices feel like second nature.
Then the rhythm clicked. From switched off to taking a picture, the GR IV Monochrome is ready in roughly two or three seconds. That might not sound like much, but on the street, a moment can appear and disappear in less time than it takes to think twice. The camera’s quickness made us quicker, too. We began carrying it everywhere, responding more instinctively, and making photographs we might once have let pass by.
The result: we took a lot more pictures than usual. There’s a particular pleasure in a camera that encourages you to keep looking, keep moving, and stay open to whatever might happen around the next corner. This tiny little beast puts the Grrr into street photography—not through size or spectacle, but through the energy it brings to the everyday hunt for a frame.
And then there was the city. Still new enough to surprise us, it provided the perfect setting for this month of experimentation: its streets, shapes, shadows, and passing characters giving us plenty to chase. The camera was the main event, but our surroundings were the cherry on top.
Volume 9 is a record of getting to know a tool by using it—finding its pace, testing its possibilities, and letting it change the way we work. We hope you enjoy the ride..
